PLEASE NOTE – Viewings/Showings by Appointment Only!

Spacious and sailor friendly, the Bavaria 49 Footloose is a great example of a successful design from this well-regarded German boatbuilder. A four cabin, three head layout comfortably accommodates a large crew, with main salon and cockpit living spaces allowing everyone to spread out. With in-mast furling mainsail and furling headsail, she is easily handled by a shorthanded crew. Footloose has received many recent upgrades and is ready to go now.

This Bavaria 49 was a semi-custom build for a Norwegian owner who sailed his new boat to the Caribbean and then spent four seasons there. A buyer from the Pacific Northwest then purchased the vessel and lived on it for three years before having it loaded onto a Dockwise Yacht Transport ship to relocate it to Puget Sound. Since then, much effort, time and money has been spent going through every system onboard while enjoying trips north to the San Juan and Gulf islands, Desolation Sound, and then a three month dream excursion and adventure to Alaska.

After 50 years of being on sailboats, these lifelong boaters have decided to shift to powerboating to explore the Northwest in a different kind of vessel. Pick up where they left off with their hard work, and enjoy this extremely strong, very capable and well-sailing cruiser!

Interior layout

The interior of Footloose is configured with four enclosed cabins and three heads, sleeping a total of seven (nine, if the forepeak cabin is used). Bulkheads and trim are in rich Mahogany which are offset by white overhead and ceilings. Large overhead hatches and opening portlights provide plenty of natural light.

The master stateroom is forward. There is a pullman style berth to port and a single bunk to starboard. Ample storage is available in numerous lockers. The head is forward and to port. The toilet faces inboard, with a counter stretching along the forward end of the space. Lockers are located outboard. A passageway leads forward to additional cabin in the forepeak that is currently configured as a storage area.

The spacious salon is aft. To port, a U-shaped settee surrounds a large fixed table. A additional settee on the inboard side of the table allows up to eight to be seated for a meal.

The galley is opposite to starboard. The U-shaped configuration gives plenty of counter space. A front loading refrigerator and top loading freezer provide ample cold storage space (a additional refrigerator unit is located in the forepeak cabin). The propane two burner stove/oven is protected by a stainless crash bar. Double stainless steel sinks are located at the aft end of the counter. A large top loading locker, doors below the sink and lockers above the counter provide storage space for dishes, pots, pans and pantry items.

The navigation station is aft of the galley on the starboard side of the salon. A large chart table gives good working space. AC and DC switch panels, battery monitor, VHF radio and GPS are close at hand.

Twin quarter cabins aft provide comfortable guest accommodations. Both cabins are configured with good storage space. Opening ports in the cabin side and into the cockpit provide ventilation. Heads with integral showers forward double as day use heads for other guests.

Deck and Hull

Footloose’s hull is clean white with dark blue cove and boot stripes. The deck is white teak overlay. Her cap rail is teak. Her hull form carries the beam well aft but not to the extreme extent of the newer production boats. This is a shape that maximizes interior and cockpit space but is not so wide that it will compromise upwind performance. An Iverson’s Designs dodger and bimini protect the cockpit. A fixed table is located on the centerline, with the Raymarine multifunction display mounted on a rotating bracket at the aft end. The cockpit accommodates twin wheels, allowing good visibility while steering and the ability to have the walk-through transom, making for an easy path from swim step all the way to companionway. There is a good sized swim step which includes a fold down telescoping swim step ladder. A hot/cold stern shower is conveniently located at the transom. Two antenna masts support wind generator, radar and other antennas and outboard motor crane.
