The Valiant 42 is a robustly built, highly regarded blue water cruiser. Bob Perry’s Valiant 40 design defined the modern performance cruiser. The Valiant 42, created when Valiant moved to Gordonville, Texas, gave Perry the chance to update the original 40 design and for builder Rich Worstell to update its construction. The result was a stiffer, more powerful, and better performing cruiser that retained and improved upon the remarkable look and reputation of the Valiant 40.

Barlavento is hull number 179 and was built in 2008. She is among the last eight built at the Texas factory that closed in 2011 after 35 years of continuous production. Barlavento was purchased new by her owner in 2009, who spared no expense in outfitting her. Her maintenance — both mechanical and cosmetic — has been superlative. Most of her life has been spent in fresh water in Portland, Oregon and Lake Union in Seattle, Washington.

Barlavento is fully outfitted for blue water cruising and has been recently updated to a impressive level with her new Yanmar 57 HP engine and transmission, new standing rigging, new running rigging, Battle Born 800 amp hour lithium house battery bank, Balmar high output alternator, extensive communication gear, Webasto hydronic cabin heater, Monitor self-steering gear and emergency rudder, Airline hookah, Achilles Inflatable dinghy, Yamaha 9.9 hp outboard, and six person Winslow life raft. Barlavento is ready for her next passage.

Highlights:
