Interior Accommodations

The Tartan 395 has the sort of traditional, warm and beautifully finished interior that has long been a hallmark of Tartan Yachts. Rather than chasing contemporary European styling trends, Tartan combines handsome maple joinery, solid-wood trim and traditional details with a practical layout designed for comfortable cruising. The result is an interior that feels substantial and inviting without being fussy, with excellent natural light and ventilation throughout.

This boat features clear-varnished maple hardwood joinery with white gelcoat liners, solid-stock trim and upgraded louvered cabinetry. The main cabin and navigation area are finished in Stone UltraLeather with Tan Granicoat solid-surface countertops in the galley and head.

The private forward cabin provides a generous island berth, hanging locker, lockers, drawers and shelving. A large overhead hatch and ports provide excellent natural light and ventilation.

The main salon is arranged around a substantial centerline drop leaf table and features a U-shaped dinette to starboard and straight settee to port. There is generous storage behind the settee backs and throughout the surrounding cabinetry.

A forward-facing navigation station sits opposite the galley. There is a true chart table with storage. The electrical panel is close at hand.

The galley is unusually well equipped for a 39-foot cruising yacht. It features a three-burner Force 10 stove/oven, Granicoat solid-surface counters with custom single sink, hot and cold pressure water, a two-drawer Vitrifrigo refrigerator/freezer and a separate top-loading Vitrifrigo freezer compartment. A microwave oven, freshwater and seawater foot pumps and a Seagull water filtration system add to the amenities.

The aft cabin features a full-width double berth, hanging locker, shelving and storage below.

The head has a separate stall shower with Plexiglass enclosure and molded seat, Granicoat countertop with integral sink, vanity storage and a 30-gallon holding tank. C-LUV was upgraded to a Raritan Elegance electric head with seawater flush.

Deck and Hull

The Tartan 395 is a successful combination of traditional yacht aesthetics and modern composite construction. Her handsome sheer, moderate overhangs and traditional coachroof give her a purposeful, unmistakably Tartan profile, while the infused composite construction, carbon-fiber mast and modern rudder and keel design provide the stiffness, strength and performance expected of a contemporary performance cruiser.

C-LUV’s hull is Flag Blue with Moondust boot striping and Gold cove striping. The hull is constructed using modified epoxy vinylester resin with CNC-cut closed-cell synthetic foam coring, localized reinforcement in high-load areas and Tartan's one-shot resin-infusion process. The internal structural grid is designed to carry the rig and keel loads and is bonded and glass-taped into the hull. All hull penetrations pass through solid E-glass core windows. The deck uses the same resin-infusion approach, with sealed premium coring, molded nonskid and aluminum backing plates incorporated into the laminate at loaded hardware locations. The hull-to-deck joint incorporates a full-length 6061-T6 aluminum backing structure and is bonded and mechanically fastened to offshore standards.

The deck has white and optional Sand molded nonskid, with stainless-steel cabin-top handrails, optional aluminum toe rail, stainless-steel stanchions, double bow and stern rails and double lifelines with boarding gates. The hardware is substantial and properly sized, including upsized moorng cleats and a custom stainless-steel stem fitting with integral bow roller.

The cockpit is one of the 395's strongest features. Twin steering wheels leave a clear centerline passage while putting the helmsman in an excellent position to see both sails and instruments. The cockpit features substantial storage, a teak table and folding swim platform. A Iverson’s Designs dodger with bimini protects the cockpit.

Sail handling is designed around easy shorthanded operation. Harken self-tailing winches, Spinlock rope clutches, aft-led sail controls and a self-tacking jib allow the primary sail controls to be managed from the cockpit. The electric main halyard winch allows easy handling of the in-boom furling mainsail.

The bow carries an electric Quick windlass with helm-mounted remote and chain counter, Delta anchor, stainless-steel swivel and 300 feet of 5/16-inch chain.

  • Quick vertical capstan electric anchor windlass with up and down foot controls
  • CHC 1203 chain counter/remote control at starboard helm
  • Anchor wash down system
  • Delta anchor with 300’ 5/16 chain and stainless wivel

  • Hot/cold cockpit shower

  • Sailtec hydraulic backstay adjuster
  • Leisure Furl in-boom furling

  • Harken self tacking jib track
  • Sobstad Sails dacron full batten mainsail

C-LUV’s sailplan is well suited for short handed sailing: the mainsail on in-boom furler is controlled from the cockpit by a electric winch. The self-tacking jib provides simple, efficient upwind sailing while the masthead reacher adds substantial sail area when reaching and sailing downwind.
