The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 34.2 packs French innovation and practicality into a well thought out and extremely attractive package. Built in 2001, Lutris shows how good maintenance and thoughtful upgrades make her an appealing option for a couple or small family.

Now with her third owner, Lutris has maintenance records dating back to when she was new. Current electronics, recent sails and rigging make her an appealing choice for no-hassle cruising the Pacific Northwest, where she’s been since new.

The Jacques Fauroux-designed 34.2 is typical of the Sun Odyssey fleet. She has lively but not overpowering performance, and is easy to maneuver under power. The SA/D ratio is 16. There is a bulb keel with a ballast to displacement ratio of 33%.

What sets Lutris apart is the care given by her owners. Systems are updated and operational, and the interior has been kept in very good condition throughout its life. This, the third owner, has been Lutris’ caretaker since 2018. As cruising plans have expanded, the family has transitioned to a larger boat.

For the sailor looking for a clean and very well cared for boat for coastal cruising, Lutris is ready to leave the dock.

Accommodations

The basic layout is focused on coastal cruising comfort for a couple or small family. The main salon is well lit from long windows port and starboard and the mid-hatch. The interior is traditionally finished with Burmese teak. The linear galley is to port and features a stove, double sinks and deep refrigerator. To starboard is an elliptical dinette. When the centerline seat is pulled out, the dinette can easily seat six. To starboard aft of the dinette is a modestly sized chart table with its own seat.

The port side galley is very user-friendly. The hanging locker at the aft end of the galley has been converted into storage immediately accessible to the cook, navigator or anyone need to store something close at hand.

Aft to starboard is an enclosed cabin with an exceptionally large double berth and hanging locker.  Aft to port is a generously sized head with shower and wet hanging locker.

The forward cabin has a V-berth that is lined with shelves. It, too, has its own hanging locker.
