ACCOMMODATIONS:

Nutshell’s spacious interior layout is characteristic of Mark Ellis designs. Her tall freeboard and springy sheer create an impressive amount of interior volume. The layout is centered around a large salon area and excellent seagoing galley with ample counter space. Two private cabins – each with separate head provides comfortable accommodations for two couples. Cabinetry and bulkheads are constructed of teak and teak veneers with a teak and holly cabin sole. The head and shower compartments are finished in white laminate with teak trim. All lighting provided by new energy efficient Alpenglow fixtures throughout.  Hela turbo cabin fans are located in both staterooms, salon, nav station, and galley.  Headroom measure 6’5″ in staterooms, galley, and salon.

Starting forward is a generous anchor locker that any sailor will appreciate with enough room for a man, or even a couple, to stand inside!  In addition to secure stowage of all ground tackle, there is ample room to store extra equipment in this area which is accessed through a large opening above the forward berth.

Just aft of the anchor locker is the forward stateroom with exceptionally large v-berth with in-fill cushion. The hull sides are finished with teak battens. There are three upper storage teak cabinets to starboard and two to port. A large hanging locker is on the starboard side with teak louvered doors. Three drawers are set underneath with a table top above. A full length mirror framed in teak is mounted on the back of the cabin door. A large opening hatch with solar vent and wood framed screen provides excellent light and good ventilation in the cabin. A Hella fan and an Alpenglow advanced LED reading light are mounted on each side of the berth. The ensuite head is aft and to port. A molded counter with sink with upgraded fixtures stretches along the forward side of the compartment. There is storage in a mirrored locker above and small locker below the counter. The head is located on the outboard side of the compartment, facing inboard. There are two lockers outboard behind the head. A small opening hatch provides ventilation.

The main salon is aft of the forward cabin. An L-shaped settee is to port and a straight settee to starboard with beautiful louvered and paneled teak cabinets and two shelves outboard of the settee.  Storage bins are located outboard of the seat backs.  A teak dining table is fixed on the centerline.  A drawer and storage locker are below the table. There are four opening ports and an opening deck hatch for ventilation. Integrated teak handholds and teak trim complete the main salon’s simple but elegant style.

The open galley in the passageway to starboard between the main salon and companionway ladder provides ample counter space and an excellent underway constraint. Teak fiddles with handholds surround the white laminate counters. There is a straight counter along the starboard side with top and front loading refrigeration space below. At the aft end of the counter is the Force 10 propane stove and oven with stainless crash bar. There is a locker for pots and pans below. Outboard along the hull side, there are cabinets for dishes and dry goods behind sliding doors. An opening port and hatch provide ventilation and light. Inboard is an L-shaped counter that wraps forward into the salon. A deep stainless sink with hot and cold pressure water, waterfall faucet for filtered water, built-in soap dispenser, faucet and foot pumps are located around the sink. There are two drawers below the counter at the forward end. Three louvered lockers above the counter provide additional storage. Sink and all work surfaces have task lighting from dedicated Alpenglow teak light fixtures.

The nav station is just aft of the galley to starboard adjacent the companionway. The nav table is an expansive space – allowing room for charts and navigation tools. Outboard along the hull side is the AC/DC electrical panel and a shelf just aft. There is a chart spotlight, two overhead lights and a 12v fan. Below the table at the forward end there is a drawer with trash bin locker below.  A hinged out navigator’s stool stores out of the way below the chart table. The companionway stairs hinge inboard to access the large workroom aft of the nav station.

The aft stateroom with separate head and shower stall is adjacent the companionway to port. There is a wide berth aft and to port with storage in lockers along the hull side. Forward of the berth are four large drawers with a shelf and hanging locker above. Alpenglow overhead lighting and advanced LED reading lights at the berth provide illumination for the space. An opening port and overhead hatch provide ventilation.

The aft head and separate shower stall can be accessed either through the aft stateroom or from the port side of the main salon. A white laminate door with teak trim and louvers separates the head from the shower compartment which is at the forward end of the space. A teak grate covers the shower sump. The head compartment aft of the shower has a counter that runs the length of the space along the inboard side. A molded sink and counter allow for easy maintenance. There is storage above the sink in a cabinet and in a small locker below the counter. Outboard/aft is a manual head that faces inboard. A locker outboard along the hull side provides additional storage space. Ventilation is provided by an opening port, hatch and dorade vent.

DECK & HULL:

Nutshell’s hull is blue Awlgrip with a white sheer stripe and tall white boot stripe. Her bottom is painted black. A teak rub strake with stainless rail runs along the mid section of the hull. Nutshell’s hull has high freeboard with tall plumb bow. A teak cap rail surrounds Nutshell’s wide side decks. Double lifelines are supported by stainless stanchions. There are boarding gates midships to port and starboard and at the stern where there is a custom teak and polished stainless swim platform and integral steps (2010).

Her spacious cockpit will comfortably accommodate a number of guests for evening cocktails. Two large lazarette compartments at the aft end of the cockpit provide excellent storage for sails, lines, fenders and other gear. At the center of the bench along the aft end of the cockpit is the propane locker that holds two 20# tanks. The lid is raised to provide a tall seat for the skipper. A teak grate covers the cockpit floor and there is a cockpit table that stows away against the Edson binnacle. A Navpod is fitted to the stainless binnacle guard.  The helm is a destroyer wheel with teak rim.

Forward, Nutshell’s open foredeck is easy to navigate. On the cabintop, there are four teak dorade boxes with stainless vents and guards. There are teak handrails to port and starboard along the cabintop and forward on the foredeck to either side of the companionway. A sturdy stainless and teak bowsprit with stainless bow platform projects from the stem.
