If you are looking for a unique racer cruiser that can be double handed and loves the big blue ocean this is your yacht. Only two owners!

“Sir Edmund” is a 49’ cold molded schooner designed by Chuck Burns and built by Covey Island Boat Works. She was designed to be an ocean racer for an experienced yachtsman and rigged to work efficiently for double handing. The original owner’s first yacht of this design, “Sir Isaac,” competed in the 1986 TransPac Ocean Race taking first in her class and first over all. The next year she competed in the Melbourne to Osaka race, a 6,000 mile double handed ocean race, and is still competing competitively today.

Many ideas from these experiences went into the design of this sister ship “Sir Edmund.” Sir Edmund competed in her first TransPac in 2025 taking second in her class with several first timers in the crew. She is an elegant, fast ocean yacht and turns eyes everywhere she sails.

Interior Accommodations

Primarily intended as a competitive club racer, she also offers versatility for comfortable cruising with below deck comfort and thoughtful design for under way. Entering from the cockpit, down the companionway on center line, turning port or starboard are storage and aft are mirror image cabins with two large long single bunks in each cabin.

Forward of the companionway is the main salon, crafted of varnished maple creating a warm light and open feel, well complimented by rich teak and holly sole. Entering the salon there is a center island with galley sink and large food prep area as well as a large hanging maple gimbaled basket for fresh fruits and vegetables. The forward part of the island has table leaves that convert this area into a comfortable dining space with safe seating port and starboard. The seats can be used with lee cloths as extra bunking as well.

Easy access to the engine located mid ship below the island. Aft of the settee on starboard is an engine-driven refrigerator/ice box. Continuing aft on starboard is a forward-facing large navigation station with breaker panel outboard.

Aft of the settee on port is more food storage area and a unique gimbaled counter space that is perfect for food prep underway and a gimbaled three burner propane Force 10 oven/stove. Forward of the main salon on port is a large head with stainless steel sink. On starboard is well organized storage area thoughtfully designed with work bench area and cabinet storage above and drawer storage below. Forward is a dedicated anchor locker, with a crash bulkhead.

Sir Edmund is perfect for the sailor who wants a competitive race boat without giving up some basic comforts for cruising. It’s particularly well suited for people who enjoy dual purpose boats that can switch between competitive regattas and comfortable ocean cruising.
