Designed by Gerry Douglas and built by Catalina Yachts in California, the 320 is known for its solid construction, spacious accommodations, and user-friendly handling, making it a favorite among cruising couples and families alike. With an 11’9″ beam carried well aft, the Catalina 320 offers exceptional interior volume and a remarkably large cockpit for its size, providing both comfort at anchor and security underway. Below deck, the warm teak-trimmed interior features a well-appointed galley, a bright and inviting salon, a private aft stateroom, and a roomy forward V-berth, offering comfortable sleeping for up to six. On deck, all lines are led aft for easy single or short-handed sailing, and the balanced sail plan—with a larger mainsail and furling headsail—provides excellent performance in a variety of wind conditions. Equipped with a reliable Yanmar diesel engine, generous tankage, and quality deck hardware, KNOT TO WORRY is equally at home on a weekend getaway or extended coastal cruise. Combining practicality, livability, and Catalina’s hallmark durability, this yacht remains one of the most popular designs in its class.

Deck and Hull

The deck layout of the Catalina 320 is designed for both comfort at anchor and efficiency under sail, making it equally well-suited for weekend cruising and extended passages. The cockpit much larger than one expects of a 32 footer. It features comfortable seating for six and easily accessible storage lockers. The walk-through transom with a built-in swim step and swim ladder provides safe and convenient water access. There is a hot and cold cockpit shower easily accessible at the stern.

All sail controls are led aft to the cockpit, allowing for easy single or short-handed sailing. Self-tailing Lewmar winches, mainsail in “stack pack” cover and a roller-furling headsail make sail handling straightforward and efficient.

The Catalina 320 was built to Catalina’s well-earned reputation for durable, low-maintenance construction, combining robust materials with practical engineering. The hull is a solid, hand-laid fiberglass laminate with a vinylester resin barrier coat below the waterline to resist osmotic blistering. The deck is constructed with a balsa core for strength and stiffness, reducing weight while maintaining rigidity. Hull and deck are joined on an inward flange and through-bolted with stainless-steel fasteners, then sealed for a watertight bond, ensuring long-term structural integrity.

The ballast is a lead casting, externally mounted and bolted to the fiberglass keel stub with stainless-steel keel bolts, providing both strength and serviceability. A fin keel with a bulb improves stability and upwind performance, while a balanced spade rudder gives responsive helm control. Deck hardware is mounted on solid glass or reinforced with aluminum backing plates where high loads are expected, enhancing durability and reliability.
