From the windswept Aleutian Islands to the warm waters of Tahiti, the Able Apogee 51 Panta Rhei is ready to go—she should know, she’s been there before.
This expedition style yacht is outfitted to safely and comfortably take you and your crew wherever your dreams may wander. Designed by Chuck Paine, Panta Rhei has a sea-kindly hull form and efficient deck layout that places an emphasis on performance and ease of use. Her bright interior features a raised salon with forward galley, true navigators station, watertight bulkheads fore and aft, and plenty of headroom throughout. Combine that with continuously and meticulously maintained and upgraded systems since she was first commissioned, including a new genset with just 7 hours of use, watermaker, forced air heat, an air compressor, bow thruster and much more, and you have a vessel that stands out amongst her peers.
Contact Swiftsure Yachts to learn more about what makes Panta Rhei a truly special boat.
Panta Rhei’s owner is 6’6″ and her interior was configured with standing headroom at 6’8″ or more through out the living space and the exterior as full enclosure as well, making it a great boat for a taller person.

Accommodations
A minimum of 6’ 8” head room in living areas of the boat combined with bunk length (7’ in forward and aft cabins and 7’2” in the salon) set this boat apart. Combine this with a warm and inviting interior layout, a true nav station (with a comfortable chair that can be lifted up for use) and a true pilothouse. The salon is up and the galley is a true chef’s galley forward. There is a lot to like about Panta Rhei!
Walk through starting forward and moving aft.
The forward cabin is the master with enclosed ensuite head. The cabin starts well aft from the bow (behind a watertight bulkhead) and has a walk around double bed. The bow locker takes up enough space so that the bed is large at the forward end with the sleepers head forward (as opposed to aft). Under the bunk is a set of three drawers. Forward (it’s hard to see because it is so well integrated above) is storage area for long narrow things. Fans attach both port and starboard as well as aft. (4 attachment locations). There are full length book cases along each side of the bed. Under the bunk are a tremendous amount of spares and the (6) 8D AGM batteries new in 2016. (1500 AH at 12 volts ½ that at the 24 volt working voltage). Aft on the port side is a bank of 4 drawers. Behind the drawers is the European house bank battery charger and the Outback power system for the solar array and a spare mast head fly. Sugar maple slating is on the ceilings to port and starboard. A Samsung television and DVD player are located on the port side. Furthest aft in the forward cabin is a large hanging locker. A Marine Air system Air conditioning /reverse cycle heater is located below the hanging locker. The floor is a true teak and sugar maple wood which extends throughout the boat.
The ensuite head is trimmed in teak wood but is finished in a white laminate. The mast is behind the door in the head. The sink is an oval affair with single lever water control. There is a large mirrored cabinet above and cabinet below with cabinet space set outboard of the vacuflush head. The shower is on the aft bulkhead. A curtain separates the shower from the rest of the head. A bar running the length of the head can be placed to make a nice additional hanging locker. This is a generous head room area.
Moving aft is the galley space. This large galley extends across the entire width of the boat. The galley is below the pilot house forward windows, making it very open and bright. Most of the galley is to starboard and we will start there. Starting forward and above on this U-shaped galley there is an open area with great storage. Two levels separate this space. Just outboard is another enclosed cabinet. Underneath is a counter (perfect for rolling out bread) that runs the length of the galley, with a space for four drawers under and a large cabinet space. In the outboard corner is a very large cabinet space accessible from the top. At the bottom of the “U” is the Force 10, 3 burner stove/oven with a storage cabinet below. Above and outboard are a full three cabinets with space above for a hull window and two surprising cabinets. Moving aft there is another full length of counter and sink space. There is a spice rack above that runs the full length of the galley. Outboard there is a large top loading compartment with a tremendous amount of space below. Four drawers are just inboard of the stove, then a large area under the sink accessible through two cabinet doors. The waste bin is in a cabinet just inboard under the sink, which is accessible from the walkway.
On the port side is a huge top loading freezer and an equally large top and front loading fridge. The fridge and freezer are unusually well insulated with vacuum panel walls, bottoms and tops. Outboard of the top loading freezer and top and front loading fridge are three more cabinets. The center cabinet holds the Avanti microwave oven. Above and outboard is a hull window with two cabinets forward.
Moving aft on the port side is the Navigators station. This is a true forward facing navigators table. The nav seat itself a flexsteel nav chair. The chair lifts to give the Navigator a full forward and side view of his surroundings. There is a true 2nd helm station with engine controls as well as control of the helm through the autopilot. The Simrad autopilot control and B&G 2000 wind indicator and multi control is at the front of the nav table. From there is the ample power energy monitor, Simrad autopilot remote attachment, Furuno radar, Furuno GPS/WAAS Navigator, Simrad AI50 GPS and AIS display, Outback power system controller display, Icom IC-M504 VHF, Icom IC-M710 SSB radio, and engine control. On the aft bulkhead behind the nav seat is a 4.5 kW trace engineering inverter/charger control panel, and new Genset control with just 6 hours on the genset, the large breaker panel for AC and DC circuits, and shore power control switch. Aft and facing inboard is the Tank Tender, Bilge level control panel, Fireboy controller, C-power Marine Isolation transformer controller and three larger breaker switches for the power winches. Under outboard and down can be found more storage and a space for the Sextant. Finally, forward and inboard in the space are the Soundstream stereo and two more drawers.
Across from the Nav station on the starboard side is the salon table. The salon table is up, giving an excellent view while seated. The Salon table drops down making a double berth. Above and outboard is a hull window which divides two more storage cabinets. Under the salon seats can be found additional storage as well as storage behind the outboard seat backs.
Moving aft on the starboard side of the companionway is the starboard sleeping berth. This is a smart use of space. There is a bunk wide enough for two people which has a curtain to close it off from the rest of the boat should the occupants want privacy. A very large cabinet is set aft above the bunk. There is access to the starboard side of the engine through a hatch inboard. AC power feed breakers along with a shore power load inlet selector switch (for selecting 50 Hz or 60Hz power inputs) are just outboard of the cabinet door. Moving forward in the space there is file drawer sized cabinet under the berth itself and a large louvered cedar lined hanging locker cabinet outboard.
On center is the companionway entrance. This is an easy two steps into the raised salon. The steps are completely removable to give access to the back end of the engine. I say back end because the engine itself is reversed because of its location aft with a V-drive.
To port is the aft head. This is a full head complete with a separate shower stall. This head has a completely separate system from the forward head. That way if something goes wrong with either head you have a complete back up. The shower space is furthest forward in the head. The shower does have a fold down chair and louvered locker, which can be sectioned off with a shower curtain. Overhead is a removable curtain rod which turns this space into a hanging locker when not in use. The head itself is a nice space with excellent room. There is a large oval sink with cabinets above and below the sink. There are also two large cabinets outboard of the head itself. The head is a vacuflush toilet.
Moving aft is a watertight doorway which gives access to the mechanical space. The mechanical space serves many functions and gives excellent access to the engine space, genset (new Northern Lights!) steering quadrant, spectra watermaker, Webasto heating system, RIX air compressor and the list goes on. This is an excellent space to get things done and a good majority of the mechanical systems are in this space.
This is a layout that works, and works well. It will be excellent for someone who is taller with standing headroom throughout for up to 6’ 8” tall person.
