LEGACY is a capable, and quick blue water cruising vessel highly desirable for a cruising couple or family. She is a one owner yacht with proven miles under her keel and a brand new Yanmar engine to set the next owner off on the right foot. She is a double cabin single head layout, unlike most other Saga 43’s built. In place of the forward head, there is a storage/work room furthering her versatility while cruising, no need to disassemble your starter motor on your salon table!
LEGACY is nicely equipped with a Spectra watermaker producing ~13-15 GPH, solar power, new AIS, new Espar hydronic cabin heater and most prominently NEW Yanmar 4JH57engine with only 6 hours! She has been cruised extensively, and pride of ownership shows. Her hull was repainted and new bottom paint in 2024. The owners have loved her for many years but are moving on from cruising and hope to find LEGACY a new cruising family soon. Extensive knowledge will be eagerly passed along. She remains at her home slip in Bellingham until a spot becomes available in Seattle.
Designer’s comments
DESIGNER’S COMMENTS:
Robert H. Perry: “When we introduced the SAGA 43 a few years ago, we never expected to set a new trend in production cruising boats. Back then only a few very large and dearly expensive custom-built yachts were available that reflected our own design philosophy. Ordinary production racer/cruisers were becoming beamier and beamier as the focus on massive interiors, chartering potential and racing rules distorted important design decisions that adversely affect performance, handling and safety. On the other hand, we never believed that a modern ocean cruising yacht need be slow and boring-or heavy and cumbersome, for that matter.”

Interior accommodations
Beginning forward, LEGACY has a forepeak work room area in place of the usual forward head arrangement found on most Saga 43’s. This space allows access to the anchor locker and comes complete as every work bench should, with a mounted vice. There is a crash bulkhead between this space and the pullman berth just aft. There is a limber hole with seacock valve to allow drainage but seal off the area in the event of forward damage. The workshop is heated by a radiator connected to the Espar Hydronic heater.
Moving aft through the watertight door, leads to the owners cabin with pullman style berth off to the port side. Dimensions of this bunk are 76” long by 57” at the head and 42” at the foot. The pullman berth is equipped with fans, reading lights, and a lee cloth for secure use at sea. Plentiful storage is available below the bunk and off to starboard are 1 hanging locker, 1 locker with shelves, and a stack of drawers. A heat exchanger located under the bed provides heat to this cabin from the Espar.
The full beam salon is midships and is a pleasing space for life aboard at anchor and also functional in a seaway. Solid teak handholds and features are placed generously throughout the cabin. A drop leaf table is situated just aft of the mast and each leaf of the table is supported by hinged wood knees. With the leaves up the table measures 50” square, adequate for six people. Linear settees flank the sides of the hull with contoured cushions comfortable for sleeping or sitting. The port settee measures 78” long by 24” wide and the starboard side is 80” long. The settees are fitted with lee cloths for sleeping at sea. Storage is outboard with space for books, knick-knacks, or easily accessible snacks. The water tanks are located under the settees on each side. Four overhead lights, four reading lights, two overhead hatches, and two dorade vents complete the space.
The navigation station is situated to starboard at the aft end of the salon and just forward of the galley. The navigator utilizes the aft end of the starboard settee for sitting. The DC & AC distribution panel is outboard, and wiring is easily accessible. The flip top chart table holds quick grab items and plotting tools. A chart light, 110V outlet, 12V outlet, and several storage options complete this space.
The L-shaped galley is to starboard at the base of the companionway. Grey flecked Corian countertops provide ample workspace and are complete with ¾ ” tall teak fiddles. A double basin stainless steel sink is close to centerline and is serviced by a single action faucet. A hinge out trash bin is under the sink solving the often-overlooked trash compartment on vessels. Outboard to starboard is storage and three-burner Force-10 stove/oven. Facing aft is the top opening Frigoboat keel-cooled refrigerator/freezer with LED interior lighting and air circulating fan that automatically turns on- and off- respectively- when the lid is open. The compressors for this system were re-built and serviced in 2023. A Microwave oven is installed above the aft end of the countertop and runs off the inverter or shore power. The salon and the galley are heated by two heat exchangers, one under the port settee and the other under the sink storage.
Opposite the galley on the port side, is the enclosed head with shower stall. There is a manual flush Jabsco toilet (all hoses, valves, and tank replaced 2024) and 19 gallon polycarbonate holding tank with tank gauge and macerator pump. The single basin sink is outboard with storage above. There is an overhead light, two opening portlights and one overhead hatch that provides ample ventilation to the space. The shower stall is enclosed by a clear curved acrylic door that slides on grooves integrated into the shower pan. A molded in seat is situated outboard for safe showers while underway.
The aft stateroom is just to port at the base of the companionway. The mattress is very generous with two mattress cushions totaling 75” wide and 6’7” long. Plenty of room for storage bins AND a person to comfortably sleep outboard. Under the centerline cushion is additional access to the aft end of the engine and drive train. Battery access is aft and outboard under the bunk cushion. A cedar lined hanging locker is oriented outboard at the head of the bunk. Completing the space is a book shelf, drawer storage, opening portlights, overhead lights and two reading lights. Heat is provided to the cabin by a heat exchanger located in the lazarette.
The companionway is moderately sloped but quite modern for the design. Five steps allow entrance to the cabin and are removable for engine access with the water pump front and center!

Hull and deck
LEGACY is hull number XX26 of 55 Saga 43’s built in Canada by Saga Yachts and designed by renowned Bob Perry. The hull and deck are hand laid fiberglass and balsa cored apart from structural members, through hull/deck fittings and the keel grid. An aluminum toe rail runs the length of the deck and is attached with adhesive sealants and mechanically with stainless fasteners on four-inch centers through a flange in the hull. She has an esthetically pleasing and modern shearline, nearly plumb bow and ‘sugar scoop’ stern. She has a modest bowsprit serving several purposes; The furling genoa tacks at the end, the anchor is as far forward as possible and decreasing the chances of hull damage when deploying or setting.
Her white hull is painted white with a thin cove stripe with the signature Saga arrowhead on the bow and slightly wider dark blue boot stripe at the waterline. Two coats of bottom paint were recently applied in 2024.
