ACCOMMODATIONS: 

A 5” high bridgedeck keeps cockpit water from sloshing into the interior yet is easy to step over.  Removable, hinged varnished teak doors are fitted with louvers, screens, and sliding acrylic closures.  A custom padded storage bag holds these doors when removed.  Side guideways hold washboards in rough weather.  A smoked acrylic sliding hatch has teak handle/trim aft.  The teak companionway ladder has four steps with black rubber non-skid pads.  Varnished teak handrails on each side of the companionway are fitted for security. 

Catnip’s interior is equally elegant and functional.  The condition is remarkable given the age of this yacht: clean, odor free, without stains or significant scratches or dings.  The balance of white surfaces and satin varnished teak results in a bright, durable, yet pleasing living space.   Ample solid, satin-varnished teak trim and framing combines with large panel teak veneers.  White gel-coat fiberglass moldings are used for overhead, seat bases, head pan, and other sensible structures.  Galley and cabinet bases are white laminate marine plywood.  Cabin door frames are arched and solid teak.  Doors are solid teak frames with veneer panels.  Drawer fronts have finger holes to access brass elbow catches.  Teak fiddles surround counters and shelves.  The cabin sole adjacent the companionway is removable teak slat/grates allowing any water to flow directly to the bilge.  Forward the sole is teak/holy veneer marine plywood. 

Interior fittings are of high quality and well-conceived.   Overhead dome lights are wall-switched.  Reading lights and countertop florescent lights are well placed.  Overhead hatches are fitted with hinged, teak frame bug screens.  Opening cabinside ports are fitted with curtains and removable screens.  Cushions and mattresses are covered durable light blue upholstery.  110V duplex outlets are located in each space.  Headroom measures 6’ 6” below the highly cambered cabin top, decreasing to 6’ 3” further outboard measured at the galley. 

The outboard-facing navigation station is to starboard of the companionway.  A flip up 20” x 14” seat has an upholstered cushion.  The chart table measures 29” x 44” and has a hinged chart drawer below the table.  An open 29” long by 12” deep bookshelf is along the aft bulkhead above a locker with smoked acrylic sliders.  A top opening is just forward of the bookshelve.  Two drawers and a front opening bin are below the chart table.  Nav/com electronics and electrical switch panel are outboard.  A black flexible arm red/white nav light and battery-power LED lights illuminate this work area.  A 14” wide by 48” tall hanging locker is aft of the seat.  Pencil holder, 110V duplex outlet, and opening side port complete this nav station. 

A quarterberth is to starboard of the companionway.  The bunk measures 77” long by 45” forward by 35” aft.  Two underdeck cabinets are outboard and a 38” x 8” open shelf is inboard of the bunk.  The fuel tank, two drawers, and open bin are beneath the bunk.  Two opening ports, a 110V duplex outlet, teak binocular rack, teak handheld VHF rack, and dome light, and hull side teak staving finish off this space.  Hinged, bifold shutters and door close this aft nav/quarterberth area from the forward spaces when privacy is desired. 

The salon is well designed for dining, lounging, or sleeping.  An “L”-shaped settee is to port and measures 76” long by 46”.   A water tank is below the seat and bin storage is behind the seatback.  Lockers with shelves flank an open bookshelf above/outboard of the seatback.  A satin varnished teak drop leaf table measures 48” wide by 44” long when fully open providing space for six to dine.  Top opening bins are fitted in the table center.  The starboard settee measures 74” long.  Upholstery is light blue, durable and pleasing to the eye.  Bins and outboard of the seatback.  A cabinet with shelves is outboard of the seat, below the deck edge, forward.  The stereo system is flush mounted above a bookshelf.  Next aft is a 24” wide by 36” tall hanging locker.  Finishing this space are: teak magazine rack, CO alarm, dome light, four reading lights, an overhead hatch, four opening ports, and two 110V duplex outlets. 

The galley is “U” shaped and just aft of the salon to starboard.  Ample counter and cabinet space holds galleyware and provisions for weeks of cruising.  Forward and outboard, is gimballed stove/oven with stainless steel crash bar.  A cabinet for pots and pans is below the stove.  Outboard of the stove is a cabinet with sliding smoked-acrylic doors.  A top-loading, well insulated fridge is aft of the stove.   A bank of four drawers is aft.  Two overhead cabinets with smoked acrylic sliders are above the sink and aft counter.  The large sink is located on centerline for proper draining at any heel angle.  A storage cabinet is below the sink.  A hinge-out trash bin is forward of the sink.  An overhead dome light, two florescent undercabinet lights and a battery powered LED light illuminate work surfaces.  110V duplex outlet, cowl vent, overhead hatch and two towel bars complete this galley.

The forward stateroom is entered through a locking privacy door to starboard in the main bulkhead.  A 77” long by 35” wide forward by 52” wide aft, pullman berth is to port.  The mattress is 6” thick.  A water tank, bins and two drawers are below the bunk.  Two cabinets with shelves and an open bookshelf are above the bunk, below the deck edge.  An open bookshelf is forward.  To starboard and all the way forward is a 26” wide by 62” tall hanging locker with bins outboard.  Passing through the hanging locker, one can view the bow thruster, mast base, and chain bins.  A vanity with 11” x 8” x 5” deep stainless-steel sink, faucet, medicine cabinet with mirrored sliding doors and storage cabinets below the sink is forward along the starboard hull side.  A tall dresser with six drawers and one cabinet is aft to starboard.  A towel ring and bar, florescent bar light, overhead dome light, overhead hatch, two reading lights, opening port, and two cowl vents complete this stateroom. 

The head and shower are located to starboard adjacent the galley.  Entrance is through two locking doors.  One aft into the stall shower, and one from forward into the head.  A vanity with stainless steel oval sink, storage cabinet, two drawers, and mirror are on the forward bulkhead.   The electric flush head is outboard.  A cabinet with smoked acrylic sliding doors is outboard below the side deck.  Aft is the stall shower with spray nozzle, hose, holder and mixer valve.  A fold down teak seat allows standing or seated showering.  Removable teak slats cover a drain pan in the head and shower.  An overboard drain pump pumps shower water overboard.  Dome lights, task light, overhead hatch, opening port, 110V outlet, towel bar and ring, and soap dispenser holder are fitted to this highly functional space. 

DECK & HULL: 

Catnip’s hull sides are painted with white linear polyurethane paint.  A two inch high sea mist green boot stripe runs along the waterline over the light green antifouling paint.  A 2” wide teak rub rail is capped with stainless steel and secured the hull sides 8” below the caprail.  An 8” tall sea mist green sheer stripe extends below the caprail to the teak rub rail.  The bow is nearly plumb and wide transom is vertical.  The bow platform is fabricated from stainless steel tubing and teak slats.  The wide transom is vertical.  A custom fiberglass swim platform is fitted to the transom.  A swim ladder and steps to the deck make this platform highly functional and complement the dinghy davits. 

A 3” high by 3” wide raised bulwark surrounds the deck.  A low profile aluminum cap rail sits atop the bulwark and sandwiches a white rubber upper rub rail fully protecting the hull sides from pilings.  25” high uncoated wire double lifelines run between stainless steel stanchions around the deck for security.  Stanchions are mounted in cast aluminum sockets bolted to the inboard bulwark side.  Boarding gates are fitted midships on each side and at the transom.  The decks are white gel coat with molded in nonskid.  Gutters on each side deck drain water below the waterline to prevent hull side streaking.  The raised cabin is highly cambered in true Mark Ellis style.  Teak handrails are fitted on each side of the cabintop.  Side decks are wide and uncluttered. 

Catnip’s cockpit is huge for a 36’ boat, taking advantage of the wide stern.  The cockpit dodger protects the companionway and extends far enough over the seats to shelter two crew on each side from rain or spray.  The seats measure 77” long by 23” wide with 15” high backs.  White mesh cockpit seat cushions are stored in the quarter berth.  The 66” wide by 15” deep helm seat is slightly raised above the side seats.  A raised helm seat with varnished teak slats aft of the helm allows good seated visibility over the cabintop.  A removable platform with varnished teak slats allows an average height helmsman standing visibility over the dodger.  A varnished teak, drop leaf cockpit table fold up from the pedestal.  A varnished teak drink holder is mounted on the pedestal guard. 

Deck accessible storage is found accessed through two hatches in below the cockpit seats.  To port a 15” x 34” opening hatch accesses a large storage locker with shelves and the DC genset.  To starboard, a 15” x 29” opening hatch accesses a divided storage locker, steering, diesel furnace, refrigeration compressor, engine, raw water sea strainer, and batteries.  Beneath the helm seat is a gas locker with three propane bottles.

MECHANICAL & PLUMBING SYSTEMS: 

The propulsion and auxiliary systems on this boat feature well installed, quality components suitable for extended cruising in the Pacific Northwest. The engine is a 55 hp Yanmar with “V” drive transmission.  A removable panel below the companionway accesses the transmission and shaft seal.  A dome light is on the starboard side bulkhead.  Lube oil and transmission oil levels can be checked from this opening.  A gasketed and guttered 24” x 36” hatch in the cockpit sole opens atop the engine providing light and full access for maintenance.  Climbing into the cockpit lockers also affords access to belts, raw water pump and other engine components without opening the cockpit sole. 

A DC genset is located in the port cockpit locker.  This unit will charge batteries without putting needless/inefficient hours on the propulsion engine.
