This is a beautiful example of a lovingly maintained Ron Holland Swan. She has never been raced, but extensively cruised through the PNW. In 2002 Townsend Bay Marine took her down to the hull and vacuum bagged on new teak decks. The hull was peeled, epoxy coated, faired and epoxy copper coated. All the winches were replaced with new Lewmars. The rudder was pulled and new bearings installed. A new Volvo 55 hp diesel was installed at the same time along with much of the ships wiring.
In 2009 the rig was pulled and new rod rigging installed by Brion Toss of Port Townsend. The check stays and baby stay are now done in kevlar. The boat is set up for sailing by a couple and has been cruised every summer since the refit. Her interior is in fabulous condition and has the original layout by Swan.
If you are looking for a true go anywhere, powerful sailing machine that is in terrific condition, you should come over to Bainbridge Island to take a look at Silver Apple.

On Coming Aboard
When you come aboard Silver Apple the first thing you notice is that the decks are beautiful and uncluttered. The racing winches were removed during the 2002 refit and big primary Lewmars are set up for short handed sailing. This boat has the traditional two cockpits found on most Swans and the steering cockpit is aft. The mainsheet has been changed to a seven to one blocking and the mainsail can be trimmed with little effort.
In descending the companionway ladder you find yourself with the large galley to port and nav station to starboard. A very seaworthy arrangement. The nav station has a chart table top, chartplotter, radar and GPS navigation system. The boat is also equipped with an AIS transceiver.
The passage to the aft cabin is on the starboard side. The aft stateroom has a double to port and single to starboard with a full size head on the port side.
The main salon is forward of the companionway. One of the first things you’ll notice are the wonderful pilot berths both port and starboard outboard of the settees. There is a large u-shaped dinnette to starboard and standard settee to port. A fold down table allows seating for 8 or so comfortably. The cabin furniture is rich mahagony that Swan is known for. There are ample drawers and cabinets everywhere. Going forward there is another head and pipe berths above the sail storage bins. There is also the traditional ladder down from the deck for moving sails in and out of the forepeak. This boat feels like the 44 footer she is and can accomodate a full crew or family.
Everywhere you look the boat feels warm and comfortable. And it’s obvious she was built to take you places. The expression”they don’t build them like this anymore” is very appropriate.

Accommodations
Silver Apple has berths for seven without using the dinnettes in the main salon. There are pipe berths forward the fold up to access the sail stowage below. The pilot berths in the main cabin are wonderful sea berths and are fitted with lee cloths. The euro design aft cabin has a small double to port and single to starboard that make excellent sea berths as well. The cabin sole is uncluttered and easy to move around on. With over 13 feet of beam there is plenty of room for the crew to work around each other both at sea or in port. The large u-shaped galley has everything a sea going chef could need for taking care of the crew.
