Interior Accommodations
The interior of the Sabre 426 is hand crafted of the finest American cherry with a teak and holly sole. Satin varnish gives the wood a delicate sheen, which accents the highly detailed joinery work featuring Sabre’s signature cold-molded curved laminated trim not found in other yachts. The generous headroom measures 6’6″ in the main salon and aft areas, and 6’4″ in the forward cabin. Drawers are maple dove tailed construction with smooth sliding roller guides.
Locker doors have fully louvered fronts, recessed self-closing hinges, and positive sealing push-button latches. The elegant and extensive lighting is by Cantalupi.
Nowhere is the study of old and new elements more evident than in the main salon. The bulkhead-mounted table is a great solution for the challenge of providing an open, airy feel while still allowing a large dining table at mealtimes. For entertaining, or for simply relaxing at the end of an exhilarating day on the water, the two L-shaped settees offer ample seating as well as hide leecloths for passage making. Fold down the table for comfortable seating for six. The port side settee converts to a double berth.
Storage is plentiful both above and outboard of the settees. Woodworking details found aboard the 426 are sure to please the most discriminating buyer.
The U-shaped galley is very functional and conveniently located to starboard at the base of the companionway. Large iceboxes are cooled by a cold plate and found aft where the most volume is available in the hull shape, and a front opening door provides convenient access to the items in the bottom of the refrigerator in addition to the two top openings.
Stainless steel sinks are situated on the forward arm of the galley, close to the yacht’s centerline. A convenient in-counter dish drainer/locker is located outboard and three large lockers are provided for dry goods. Many drawers are available for utensils and cookware.
The owners can choose between the forward and aft staterooms. Both are spacious and comfortable with ample storage. The forward cabin is well ventilated with opening ports and an opening hatch. The vee-berth is enhanced with step-up access. The aft cabin is also roomy and airy. A clever overhead hatch (concealed under and protected by the cockpit locker lid) offers excellent ventilation as well as connecting the cockpit crew to those below. Many drawers and lockers are provided for stowage of personal effects.
KINGFISHER’s head compartment, with ceramic tiled floor and spacious separate shower stall is well equipped, functional, and easy to clean. Hose runs from the WC to the holding tank are as short as possible so as to minimize head odors. The Jabsco Quiet Flush fresh water head, and Tank Watch 4 monitor complete the system.
The custom chart table arrangement is set up for a variety of electronics. The inboard end of the chart table hinges open for chart and accessory storage, while a large panel for flush mounting of additional electronics is provided in clear view of the navigator. The fully equipped custom Sabre tool drawer highlights the storage in this area.

Hull and Deck
KINGFISHER’S hull is Vacuum-bagged, Divinycell-cored structure hand laminated with structural E-glass. Outer layers use vinylester resins for waterproofness. Sleek inward turning hull to deck joint with integral 2 1/4″ high teak toe rail, secured with 3M 5200 sealant and stainless steel through bolts. Bulkheads, berth faces, shelves, and floor stringers are all bonded to the hull and each other to provide additional structural reinforcement and the super solid feel Sabre is renowned for.
In 2024 Jim Taylor designed a new, more modern bulb keel for KINGFISHER. The purpose was to get away from the winged keel. The performance is virtually the same, the only perceived difference is less drag in light air.
The hull is painted in Majestic Blue Awlgrip and all exterior teak is varnished. On deck, there are both inboard and outboard genoa tracks with the inboard tracks are recessed into the deck tooling. Custom integrated stainless steel deck hardware includes mast collar, bow roller, chocks (bow, stern, and mid-ships), (10) opening ports, and companionway handrail.
