The Finngulf 41 is a little known yacht for the west coast, but seems to be designed specifically for this area. She has long legs and enough sail area to satisfy anyone who enjoys the journey, not just the destination. WILLIWAW’s original owners spec’d her to be the racing version of this design, opting for the carbon rig, deeper draft, and lighter displacement. Even so, she is easily singlehanded and equipped for cruising local waters before summer arrives. Her tall Hall Spars carbon rig supports plenty of sail area to enjoy the light summer wind and is easily depowered in the gales of the shoulder seasons. Finngulfs are designed to sail in the rugged waters of Northern Europe and compete with other performance yachts of that area, namely Swan and Sweden Yachts, so they are right at home in the Pacific Northwest.

WILLIWAW was built in Finland and arrived in Seattle in March of 2004. She was commissioned at Canal Boatyard with the help of local vendors. This process was documented thoroughly by photographs including showing the sturdy keel being bolted into place. Throughout her time in the PNW she has been cruised lightly and kept in top shape. Her current owner purchased her with the intention for extensive cruising and has upgraded all her systems accordingly. The owner’s plans and lifestyle have changed making the call to shift to a catamaran, so WILLIWAW is now on the market.

Interior Accommodations

Below decks WILLIWAW is warm and inviting. Her interior is traditionally fit out with teak and holly sole and teak veneered bulkheads. Her cabin cushions are a pleasing blue Alacantra suede  fabric with comfortable bolsters.

Beginning forward, the owners cabin has a low V-berth style bunk that is 6’ 7” long. Under the bunk is a hinged door to allow access to storage. To starboard is a small sitting bench and generous hanging locker. The hull sides are lined with teak battens with shelving above for personal items. At the forward end of the bunk is access to the anchor locker. To port is another hanging locker. The cabin is well lit with one overhead light, two LED reading lights, and an overhead hatch with integrated Oceanair screen and shade.

Moving aft into the main salon, you are greeted with plenty of portlights and hatches that allow for excellent natural light. This cabin is expansive for only a 41’ vessel with headroom of 6’ 4”. Along the port side is a linear settee that would make a good sea berth with storage above and outboard. The grey painted carbon mast is unimposing in the cabin and nestles into the forward end of the main salon table. To starboard is the large fixed salon table that services the U-shaped settee and comfortably seats six people. Storage is available by two opening doors on the centerline. Outboard along the hull are four cabinets, with open shelves below. LED lights are remotely activated by switches deliberately placed throughout the cabin.

At the aft end of the main salon is the large galley. A double stainless sink with single action faucet, three-burner LPG stove, and countertop accessible refrigerator are all services readily available. A small flip-up counter acts as additional counter space for hors d’oeuvres or more prep space. Storage is plentiful here as well with five small drawers to the right of the stove, outboard along the hull behind three sliders, below the sink and stove as well. An opening portlight is situated above the stove for sufficient ventilation when cooking as well as two bright warm white LED lights.

Opposite the galley on the port side of the boat is the forward facing navigation station. Here there is a standard nav desk with flip-open top, and enough storage for plotting tools, books, and to have a laptop out. A small Raymarine chartplotter is mounted on the bulkhead with a multi display above for current conditions. The comfortable seat is positioned such that the a bulkhead provides adequate back support.

The head compartment is just aft of the nav station and positioned conveniently at the base of the companionway for any watch standers. The electric flush toilet faces aft with the countertop and single basin sink outboard. Running the length of the countertop is a teak fiddle to keep items from falling off while underway. There is a single action faucet and separate sprayer. Outboard along the hull is storage with mirrored sliders and an opening hatch above in the cabin top. LED lighting keeps the space bright. The separate shower stall is aft with a large cabinet outboard and opening hatch door aft to access the port cockpit storage area. A teak shower grate is underfoot for support above the shower pan.

Opposite the head and aft of the galley on the starboard side is the aft cabin. A sturdy teak door separates the cabin. The bunk is low and 6’ 7” long forming a queen-size bunk and very comfortable sea berth. The space has a generous storage cabinet, LED reading lights, and two opening portlights for ventilation.
