The Baltic 42 was designed and built at a high point in design and construction when sailboats could be raced competitively and cruised comfortably, all in great style. Baltic Yachts came into being in response to the myriad successes of the other well known Finnish yacht builder of the time, Swan. Baltic followed the same basic approach as Swan — have a well-known designer, in this case Doug Peterson, come up with the lines while the Finnish craftsmen would make it beautiful and structurally sound. The result was a very well performing, stylish yacht with uncompromising attention to construction and finish.

Fury has been lovingly cared for throughout her life. In early years, Fury won more than her share of trophies. Since then, she’s received thoughtful upgrades that cruising sailors will appreciate. The glossy black topsides LPU paint job done in 2012 is striking. Fury is a pleasure to sail providing performance in all conditions.

Without a doubt, sailors of every era will be impressed with the Baltic look that never seems to age.

Accommodations

Fury‘s interior is finely fitted satin varnished teak and teak veneers with varnished teak and holly cabin sole. The white vinyl headliner is trimmed with elegant teak strips. Her comfortable two cabin layout sleeps eight – the benefits of a fantastic aft cabin, pilot berths and settees in the main salon and a comfortable forward stateroom.

Starting forward is the forepeak cabin with V-berth. The hull sides are covered with teak battens which gives the space a warm feeling. Long shelves run to port and starboard. There is an infill cushion for the berth. Sail storage is available below the berth and there is a hanging locker to port. Aft and to starboard is the forward head. The sole and sink counter are easily maintained white molded fiberglass surfaces. There is hot/cold pressure water and a fresh water foot pump. The W.C. Baby Blake head is located outboard at the aft end of the compartment. Storage is available in a locker below the sink and outboard of the head along the hull side. A mirror is mounted on the forward bulkhead.

The main salon has a U-shape settee to port and a straight settee to starboard. Two pilot berths above and outboard of the settees provide great sea bunks. Excellent storage is available outboard of the settees below the pilot berths. On the centerline, the teak drop leaf table reaches to both settees. Storage is available just aft of where the keel stepped mast intersects the table. Reading lamps, overhead lights, deck prisms and a large opening hatch provide excellent light and ventilation. Handholds at the fore and aft end of the salon and overhead allow easy movement throughout the space in a seaway.

On the port side aft of the main salon is the large forward facing nav station. The half admiralty sized chart table lifts to reveal storage below. There are B&G displays, a compass and a chart spot light at the forward end of the table. Four drawers are located on the inboard forward end under the table. Outboard along the hull side, the  VHF radios is easily accessed. Two shelves and a locker are located just aft. The electrical panel is located on the aft bulkhead behind the navigator’s seat. The large L-shaped galley is across the cabin to starboard. Formica countertops are surrounded by teak fiddles. At the forward inboard end of the counter is the two bin stainless sink with hot and cold water faucet and raw water foot pump. There is a storage locker below the sink. Along the outboard counter are separate refrigeration and freezer boxes. There is also a Force 10 three burner propane stove and oven with broiler. A stainless steel crash bar runs along the forward edge, and there is a locker for storage of pots and pans below the stove. Above and outboard along the hull side are two sliding door lockers and two large opening lockers for pots, pans, utensils and dry storage.

Aft through the starboard passageway past the galley is Fury’s roomy aft stateroom with centerline double berth. There are identical settees to port and starboard of the berth and storage shelves and lockers outboard. Two large hanging lockers provide additional storage. A mirror is mounted on the forward bulkhead.

The aft head can be accessed from the aft cabin or the passageway to port near the nav station. The counter and cabin sole are molded fiberglass for easy maintenance. The sink with pressure hot/cold water faucet and manual pump is in the aft corner of the compartment. Storage is available in a locker below and three lockers outboard along the hull side. The W.C. Baby Blake head is forward of the sink. A shelf and mirror are located outboard along the hull side.

Construction

FURY was constructed to the highest standards at the Baltic Yachts yard in Finland. In 2006, her hull was painted black with maroon boot stripes and silver pin stripe. She is constructed of a GRP sandwich utilizing CK57 aircraft grade end grain balsa core and hand laid fiberglass mat to produce a stiff and light hull without sacrificing strength. Structural bulkheads are laminated to the hull and deck. Stringers and transverse floors are GRP and unidirectional roving built up around a high density core. Her deck is hand laid molded fiberglass with balsa core and additional reinforcement in high stress areas.
