The Oyster 53 has long been regarded as one of Oyster Marine’s finest passage making yachts, combining the confidence and seakeeping ability of a true offshore cruiser with the comfort, refinement and livability expected of an Oyster. Designed by Rob Humphreys and Oyster Marine with Holman and Pye interiors the 53 has a powerful, easily driven hull, deep high-performance bulb keel and substantial displacement that give her an impressive combination of stability, tracking ability and performance under sail. Her distinctive deck-saloon profile brings exceptional light and visibility below while maintaining the traditional elegance of an Oyster, and her generous cockpit, protected working areas and well-organized deck make her equally capable on an ocean passage or cruising with family and friends. BELLAMARE is a particularly compelling example of the model, having received a major refit in 2024 that went well beyond cosmetics. Her teak decks were removed, all deck hardware was taken off, and the hull and deck were professionally painted in Awlgrip to a very high standard before the hardware was reinstalled and re-sealed. Portlight lenses were replaced, the standing rigging was renewed, the sails were serviced and a new staysail added. Many of the through-hulls were upgraded to high-quality Trudesign composite fittings and valves. In 2026, all Lewmar deck hatch lids were replaced. Below deck, new LED lighting, USB charging outlets in each stateroom, new salon upholstery and a custom spring mattress in the master stateroom further modernize an already exceptionally comfortable cruising interior. Her mainsail cover, dodger and full cockpit enclosure were also replaced in tasteful charcoal gray, complementing her recently refinished hull. Much of this work was completed in preparation for an extended family cruise from New Zealand to Alaska, giving the refit a clear emphasis on reliability and cruising capability rather than simply presentation. BELLAMARE represents exactly what makes the Oyster 53 so appealing: a substantial, beautifully finished bluewater yacht with genuine offshore capability, excellent accommodations and a comprehensive program of recent upgrades, ready to take her next owners wherever they choose to go.

Interior Accommodations

BELLAMARE’s accommodation access is through the well-protected companionway hatch forward in the cockpit, beneath the dodger. The washboard drops into a storage cavity and pins closed or half height.

One immediately senses the elegance, comfort, and quality of the bright and open interior. Details are thoughtfully designed with rounded corners everywhere, panel reliefs, counter and shelf fiddles, handholds, and contrasting white overheads. Varnished teak is used for interior joinery and is in excellent condition. The cabin sole is teak with holly accent stripes and all sole boards are easily removed for bilge access after removing retention screws. The overhead is padded white vinyl - fully removable. All overhead hatches are fitted with concealed Ocean Aire blinds and screens.  Wall-switched recessed spotlights are well placed for evening illumination. Brass Frigast reading lights are sensibly mounted in each space. All cabinet and cabin doors positively latch closed.

BELLAMARE features a four cabin layout with two heads. Forward, there are two staterooms that share a head. The starboard cabin featuring a pullman style double berth and the port stateroom featuring two bunks. The head, forward, features a integral shower. Amidships, her raised salon is bright and airy with excellent ventilation. There is a curved settee to starboard surrounding a beautiful teak table with chessboard inlay that folds to create a larger dining space. To port is a settee that has a knockout to create a sea berth. At the aft, port corner of the salon is the nav station with full instrument package and electrical distribution/monitoring close at hand. Adjacent to the nav station is a additional cabin with single bunk. The spacious galley is located in the passageway to the aft cabin. Counter space is more than ample, as is storage in many lockers and drawers. A deep top loading freezer compartment and massive front loading refrigerator are well insulated. Aft, the owner’s stateroom with full size walk around berth is a comfortable space with excellent storage. There is a ensuite head with separate shower stall.

Deck and Hull

The Oyster 53 combines a powerful offshore hull with the practical, beautifully finished deck layout that has made Oyster a benchmark for serious cruising yachts. Designed by Rob Humphreys and Oyster Marine, her substantial 49,600-pound displacement, high-performance bulb keel and deep 7’3” draft provide the stability and tracking ability expected of a true passage maker, while the robust Lloyd’s-approved GRP construction is built for miles offshore. Above deck, the Oyster’s distinctive deck-saloon profile, wide side decks, protected cockpit and thoughtfully arranged sailhandling systems create a secure and efficient platform for short-handed cruising. BELLAMARE has seen significant attention to her exterior, including a complete hull repaint, a fully painted non-skid deck following replacement of the original teak, new deck hatches, resealed deck fittings, and new standing rigging.
