ONE-EYED CAT is a Mercator Offshore 30 designed by Neil Parmentier/Sieg Brunnenkant and built from 1968 until 1981 in Kent, Washington. The boats were molded by Neil Parmentier and sold as bare hulls, and around 1970, Neil Parmentier, collaborating with Sieg Brunnenkant, redesigned the hull, created a new deck mold, and officially founded Mercator Industries. In 1973, Parmentier sold his interest to Brunnenkant, who continued to build the Mercator 30 until 1981. ONE-EYED CAT is a stout pocket cruiser and a great platform to explore the Pacific Northwest, and if bigger dreams are on the dance card, a sistership has completed a circumnavigation. Per renowned naval architect Robert Perry, "the Mercator 30's hull construction exceeds Lloyd's recommended scantlings, with all bulkheads and longitudinal members screwed to fiberglass flanges and then glassed over, a thoughtful structural detail throughout." With her additional cabin heat, ONE-EYED CAT has been a robust 4-season platform for exploring the Salish Sea.
From the owners:
"We specifically chose the Mercator 30 because we wanted a tough, honest boat built for the realities of Pacific Northwest cruising. With its relatively heavy displacement, an encapsulated keel, and a skeg-hung rudder, she is built to handle the steep chops of the Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca with absolute composure. She is a rugged, confidence-inspiring cruiser that has given us total peace of mind in all conditions. Our upgrades have focused strictly on enhancing that inherent seaworthiness, safety, and true 4-season cruising comfort. Equipped with an efficient Wallas forced-air diesel heating system, this boat is a proven winter explorer. We regularly cruised for weeks over Christmas and New Year's in absolute comfort. In fact, we got out more during the fall, winter, and spring because it allowed us to have the San Juans mostly to ourselves. To support our year-round cruising capabilities, the boat was completely repowered in 2019 with a modern, 29 HP Yanmar 3YM30 marine diesel engine. She also features a comprehensive electronics overhaul, including an integrated Raymarine Axiom 7 navigation suite with a 24-mile radar to safely and confidently cope with the frequent fog."

Interior Accommodations
ONE-EYED CAT’s interior layout is well-suited to a small, passage-making cruiser. A V-berth sits forward, with the head to port just forward of the mast. The main salon features a U-shaped settee to port that converts to a double berth, and a single settee to starboard. With the addition of lee cloths, all salon seating can be configured for comfortable off watch rest underway. Aft of the main salon and immediately adjacent to the offset companionway, an L-shaped galley to port offers a large icebox, single sink, and 4-burner propane stove with oven. To starboard, a compact navigation station keeps the MFD and VHF within easy reach of the cockpit. An aft starboard quarter berth completes the layout. Whether at anchor or underway, her accommodations are well up to the task of keeping her crew safe, rested, and well fed.
