Farr Yacht Design and Beneteau have produced some of the finest hull designs with no compromises. They are fast around the buoys and even quicker as cruisers. The Beneteau First 10R lives up to the hopes and dreams of the design. Lost Together comes as the perfect building platform for bringing up a young racing family around Puget Sound and for extended family vacations. She has an adequate galley space and accommodations to suit two couples and a child or two. The separate cabin on the starboard side is quite a luxury for a 30-foot boat in this class.

Beneteau designers cut no corners when thinking of unique features for this boat; like the flip up lower companionway board that provides just enough from water ingress and the integrated asymmetrical spinnaker pole that makes hoisting a kite a viable option for shorthanded sailing.

Come see why Lost Together will make your sailing in Puget Sound complete!

Accommodations

The interior space aboard the 10R is quite remarkable for that of a 30’ cruiser/racer. The layout favors centralizing and centering the weight for optimum performance and easy movement throughout the boat. Light grained Mukali veneer is used throughout the boat for its durability and high finish quality. Pressure laminated floorboards fit snugly, are easy to clean and have decent insulating properties.

Furthest forward, is the enclosed head with large locker to starboard that holds the holding tank. Having the head all the way forward allows the main salon the full width of the boat without compromising accessibility. There is a manual flush toilet with a single molded in sink to port with pressure water. Below the sink is a small amount of storage for cleaning supplies and access to plumbing.

The main salon is located centrally in the boat and has 5’ 11” of headroom throughout. The double leaf, folding table encapsulates the lower portion of the carbon mast with room for eight around it during a meal. There are two, six foot four inch long settees. The two batteries are located under the forward part of the port settee with storage aft and the water tank is below the starboard side. The settees are exceptionally deep so sleeping on them is quite comfortable. Overhead, stainless grab rails provide safe handholds while underway. Six Lewmar opening portlights in the coach roof allow generous light and ventilation throughout the cabin. Recessed lighting is supplemental after sunset.

The L shaped galley is next aft on the port side. The single stainless sink and single action faucet are forward facing with space below for cleaning supplies. In the corner of the countertop is access to the deep refrigerator to keep the beverages frosty all summer. The two burner gimbaled alcohol stove is just aft with a stainless safety bar surrounding it. Above the countertop and stove are two storage cabinets, with hinged and latching doors for dishware. Three more cabinets aft are available for food or cookware.

Opposite the galley, is the forward facing nav station. The permanent bench seat has storage below and delivers a safe spot for plotting underway. The flip up chart table has good storage for navigation or maintenance tools. Above and outboard is the AC/DC panel, VHF and thermostat for the Webasto cabin heater.

Farthest aft on the starboard side is the owners’ stateroom. This private cabin has room for two for a comfortable nights sleep. The bunk is 6’5” by 5’5”. A hanging locker outboard gives space for foul weather gear or clothing. Overhead LEDs and two opening portlights flood the space with good light and airflow.

The three step companionway separates the two cabins and lifts out of the way for access to the engine. The sea strainer, oil dipstick, and coolant are all front and center when the steps are removed.

On the port side, aft is the quarter berth. This makes an excellent sea berth or temporary sail storage. The bunk length is 6’5” with 3’ of width. Storage is available below and access to the water heater.

Deck and Hull

The First 10-R resembles the 40.7 and 36.7 but has a distinguishing feature separating it from its older sisters. There is a retractable carbon bowsprit mounted on the starboard side for improved handling downwind and shorthanded sailing.

The deck and hull of the First 10-R was the first model constructed with the “One Shot” infusion process. This ensures the balsa cored decks and hull (above the waterline) receive sufficient amounts of resin throughout the entire boat. Under deck fittings, solid glass is used for added strength

Beginning forward, there is a small anchor locker for rode and quick access to store the anchor while racing. The sturdy molded in non-skid and teak toe rail provides good grip on the foredeck. The side decks are clean and drain well in a seaway. The shrouds are set in from the hull making the decks easy to navigate. The cockpit is secure and workable for helmsman, mainsail trimmer, two headsail trimmers and a pit person. All control lines and halyards are run back to two cabintop clutches and two cabin top winches. The teak covered cockpit seats are comfortable for relaxing on and are aesthetically appealing. The 63” aluminum wheel is exceptional from a racing standpoint, allowing the helmsman to sit on the windward side of the boat and see the jib telltales. The main sheet system and traveler are mounted just forward of the helm, perfect for the helmsman to facilitate a quick ease of the sail in a gust or perfect for single or double handing. Both cockpit settees have great storage below them and all the way aft under the deck is additional garage type storage. There is excellent access to the steering quadrant, Webasto heater and throttle linkage and room for 5+ fenders and lines.
