Finding the right boat

There are thousand of boats across the world, each one is different and each one is unique. Finding the right boat can sometimes take years. Our knowledge of the market and expertise allow us to help you finding your dream boat following those steps:

  1. Focus the search (purpose, budget, size, location).
  2. Research the possibilities (web sites, professional associations, boats soon to come on the market).
  3. Confirm the condition (with the listing broker).
  4. View the boat. “You never know until you go.” When considering boats in distant locations, one will never know the boat’s condition without viewing it. We frequently travel with our clients to help them make this assessment. Brokers and photos don’t always tell the whole story.
  5. Attend the survey and seatrial.
  6. Assist with the purchase and sales process.
  7. Facilitate commissioning, delivery and decommissioning.

Our expertise helps our clients move forward, or in some cases, pull the plug on the deal before making a costly mistake. And the proof is in the enjoyment our clients are having in their new boats! This service is FREE.

The following are recent examples of boat purchases with Swiftsure Yachts acting as the buyer’s broker:

The Solong was the answer to one customer's quest for a liveaboard sailing experience.

Solong, a 1998 Hallberg Rassy 53

For some, downsizing means selling the house and moving to a smaller condominium. For the avid sailor, downsizing often means moving from life ashore to full-time liveaboard status. When Scott Fuller was approached by one of our clients to assist in just such a move, he found a lightly used and very well equipped Hallberg Rassy 53 which met all of the customer’s criteria for the perfect liveaboard — comfortable at dock or at anchor and a safe, well-found passagemaker

AM3, a 1993 Able Apogee 50

We first met Lee and Roxanne when we sold their Sceptre 41, AM3, through Swiftsure Yachts. After the sale was complete, they joined Swiftsure Yachts partner Brad Baker on a delivery cruise to San Francisco of the Alden 44, Puffin, in order to gain more offshore experience. After they returned, they focused their search for a new boat: one that was not only bigger but also better designed for long-distance cruising. After viewing Scoots, our Able Apogee listing, they became intrigued with the boat’s melding of comfort, purposeful lines, and strength with excellent sailing capability.  As Scoots had found a new home, Lee and Roxanne headed east with Pete McGonagle to view several other Apogees on the east coast and ultimately purchased Westri, a 1993 Able Apogee. The newly christened AM3 remained in Rhode Island where her new owners began their cruise the summer of 2006 after racing in the cruising division of the Newport to Bermuda Race
